Until June 18, 2011, SASEG was called "Swiss Association of Petroleum Geologists and Engineers" (VSP-ASP), a professional association founded in 1934 as "Association of Swiss Petroleum Geologists and Petroleum Engineers". After a survey among the members, the management committee at that time implemented a substantially expanded purpose of the association and at the same time a new name, i.e. SASEG.
